Best place to sell a car in Dubai
In short: There is no single best place to sell a car in Dubai, only a trade you have to price yourself. An instant-cash buyer buys at a trade price and pays now. Consignment aims at a retail buyer and takes weeks. Get both figures, subtract the commission, and decide what the wait is worth.
If there is an instant-cash quote open in another tab and it came back lower than you hoped, it is not evidence of anything shady. The number is low for a structural reason: the company quoting it is the buyer, and it has to sell your car again afterwards at a profit. What is on the table is not really a price for the car. It is a price for skipping the search for a buyer.
Whether that is worth taking depends on a figure you probably do not have yet. Once you do have it, the question stops being a matter of opinion and turns into arithmetic. SellCarEasy sells cars on consignment and never buys them, so this page has a side. The way to keep it honest is to do the sum in the open and let the numbers argue.
The three numbers that settle it
Three figures decide this, and most people start with only one of them.
- The cash offer. You already have it. Write it down before it moves.
- What the car should fetch at retail. This is the one that is usually missing. SellCarEasy's valuation is free and carries no obligation, drawn from the car's condition, its mileage and the Dubai market, and it comes back within 24 hours. It is a market estimate rather than an instant algorithmic quote, and it is not a guaranteed sale price.
- The commission. SellCarEasy does not publish a percentage anywhere. The site says to contact them for the commission details for your car, so that figure is a phone call, not a guess. Refuse to do the sum without it.
Then the subtraction. Retail figure, minus commission, minus the cash offer. What is left is the gap, and the gap is the only thing the extra weeks are buying.
Now price the wait. Divide the gap by the weeks you would spend waiting. The published expectation is that most cars sell within 2 to 4 weeks, popular models faster and niche models longer, so two to four is where the divisor starts. If the weekly figure is not worth it, take the cash offer and close the tab. If the gap runs to several months of car payments, the same weeks look different. Nobody outside your household can run that comparison, which is why a page that names a best place without asking about the gap is answering a different question.
Two adjustments before you trust the result. The gap is not banked, because 2 to 4 weeks is an expectation rather than a guarantee and no sale is certain at any price. And if the car still has finance on it, the lender has to release its mortgage before ownership can move at all, so your bank's clearance time sits on top of the selling time rather than inside it.
There is also a cost the subtraction will not show you. On a private sale through the classifieds there is no commission to take off, which is the genuine advantage of that route. What stands in its place is the ownership transfer, the evenings, and an exposure that outlives the money: in a private sale in the UAE the seller can be held liable after the car has changed hands. In a consignment sale SellCarEasy takes over that liability at the point of sale. Put a figure on the difference yourself, because the arithmetic above will not do it for you.
The fees the route does not change
Part of the bill is indifferent to how you sell. These are published figures, from the RTA and the Central Bank of the UAE. The first two land on an ordinary sale. The last two apply only if they apply to you.
| Item | Cost in AED | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| RTA vehicle inspection, light vehicle | 170 | AED 150 plus AED 20 Knowledge and Innovation. Valid 30 days |
| RTA re-inspection, light vehicle | 50 | After a failed test |
| Cancelling registration for export | 140 | AED 50, AED 70 plates, AED 20 fee. Only if the car leaves the UAE |
| Early settlement of car finance | 1% of the balance, or AED 10,000, whichever is less | A Central Bank ceiling, not a price. Ask your own bank |
The inspection belongs to the transfer rather than to the listing, and the certificate lapses after 30 days. Testing before a buyer exists is how sellers pay for it twice. Agree who books it before the sale rather than after. The RTA inspection guide sets out what the test looks at, and selling a car with a loan on it covers the clearance side in order.
How to get the second number
The missing figure costs nothing, which is the argument for getting it before you decide anything else. The sell your car page carries the valuation form: chassis number, mileage, your name and how to reach you, with a box for condition, equipment and service history. A reply comes within 24 hours and there is no obligation to sell afterwards.
If the numbers send you towards consignment, what you are buying with the weeks is this. The car is marketed to a retail buyer instead of sold into the trade. It stays with you and you keep driving it while it is advertised. You set the minimum price you will accept. SellCarEasy handles the photography, advertising, buyer contact, viewings, contract, settlement and ownership transfer, and commission is charged only on a completed sale, with nothing payable in advance. A car that does not sell has cost you the wait and nothing else.
To talk it through first, call +971 52 270 8056, email info@sellcareasy.com, or use the contact page. SellCarEasy is at 10 San'a Rd, Ras Al Khor Ind. First, Dubai, open Monday to Saturday, 10:00 to 18:00.
This page prices the wait. For the map of the whole field, including auction and export, how to sell a car in Dubai sets out six routes and who does the work in each. For the three routes most sellers narrow down to, and what each one does with the paperwork and the liability afterwards, consignment, trade-in or private sale goes deeper.
